Regio Placas is an independent companion app for drivers with vehicles registered in Nuevo León. It keeps circulation cards, insurance and invoices for each vehicle, reminds you of important dates, and links to the official portals for refrendo and fines.
The challenge
Vehicle paperwork in Nuevo León is spread across official portals, paper documents and memory. Drivers with more than one car rarely have registration, insurance and sale documents in one place when they need them.
What I built
- A multi-vehicle dashboard for several cars in one account.
- Document storage per vehicle: circulation card, insurance policy and invoice.
- Reminders for dates and documents, using the device’s notification permissions.
- Direct links to the official ICVNL and REPUVE portals, plus Nuevo León emergency numbers.
- Venta Segura NL: a checklist, log and reminders for selling a vehicle and transferring ownership.
- Wait times for 15 US border crossings from CBP’s public feed.
Key decisions
“The app is explicit about what it doesn’t do.”
It doesn’t check refrendo or fines automatically and isn’t affiliated with the government; it links to the official portals instead. Data is encrypted in transit and protected with row-level security.
Where it is now
Free on iOS. Android is in closed testing with a waitlist.
